Woodstock Chimes Temple Bells, Quintet

Bells have been used throughout the ages to accompany dance, to provide comfort and to warn of possible danger. The Chinese were the first to control the pitch or note of a bell, making it possible for them to play tunes. Soon bells were being used to accompany worship. On New Year's Eve the bells in Buddhist temples are rung 108 times, once for each of the 108 worldly desires. In the East bells are often decorated with significant symbols. For centuries, tuned bells have been suspended in homes and temples to ward off evil and attract good luck and prosperity.

Woodstock Temple Bells are inspired by these ancient bells and work in harmony with the wind to create a calm and meditative atmosphere. Our Temple Bells are not tuned to a musical scale but they are crafted with the same care as Woodstock Windchimes to ensure their beautiful tones.

More than 30 years ago, the first Woodstock Chime was created by founder and owner Garry Kvistad from an aluminum lawn chair he found in a landfill. As a professional musician and instrument designer, he was fascinated by the Scales of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can’t be played on a modern piano. Garry had the idea to cut and tune the lawn chair tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our bestselling windchimes. Garry and his wife Diane founded Woodstock Percussion, Inc. in 1979 and it remains a family-owned business in New York’s Hudson Valley.

5Simply Amazing  May 18, 2002
By Frankie V. Fernandez
I saw one of these wonders in a friend's Asian-themed garden. Hearing the chimes, I immediately went searching for the usual wind chimes. To my surprise, the rich tones came from this Pagoda-shaped array of bells which blended perfectly with the garden elements. There are no words to describe the sound. It is simply an amazing one. I could only wish these are delivered internationally.

5Temple bells are very soothing  Aug 22, 2005
By Paula A. Thomson
I love my temple bells. My son gave me a gift certificate to Amazon for my birthday and it worked out perfectly because I was able to pick out things that I really liked. The temple bells are hanging outside next to our hummingbird feeder and it is very relaxing to watch the humingbirds and listen to the temple bells when the breeze blows.

1Disappointed  Jun 15, 2006
By Les C. Rogers
I'm disappointed in the Temple Bell chimes. What others might choose to call "gentle tones" I myself would just call "weak." It's been very breezy here lately, but these Temple Bells seem to respond very poorly. I'm not even sure the top two chimes are EVER activated, but even the clappers on the bottom ones are more inclined to just go round and round the inside of the circular chime as opposed to actually striking notes. I think it's a design flaw. Maybe if the chimes were triangular or even square there would be more striking and less stroking by the clapper.

I hate to give such a bad review. From looking at the other chime offerings from Woodstock, many of them look like they would NOT disappoint. But this one did.
