Great Windchime! Jun 02, 2009

I was looking to replace our old windchime with a quality windchime (after the wood on the old one started rotting and the sound was always a bit high and "tinny" sounding). After doing a Google search, I went on the Woodstock website after reading that their windchimes were the best rated. Their website helped me narrow down which type of windchime I wanted (they have 30 second soundbites so you can hear the sounds of each windchime). I narrowed down my choices to Athena or Orpheus, as I like the Alto toned, resonating windchimes. However, I decided not to buy from Woodstock directly as it was more expensive on their website and it was going to take longer to ship (I wanted it for mother's day for my mom). So I went to Amazon and saw it was cheaper and I could get a faster shipping speed. I went back and forth between the Athena and the Orpheus, as they sound similar, but Athena won out. Although I did like the sound of the Orpheus a little better (and I may buy it later when I have more room or more hooks for my patio), Athena was around $30 cheaper and I liked the symbolism of it as we are all about woman power in our mother-daughter household (even our dog is a girl! LOL!) so I thought we should have the Athena, who was the goddess of wisdom and protector of Athens. Unfortunately, the windchime ended up coming too late for mother's day (so order with plenty of time if planning to buy as a gift). Nonetheless, we just got it on Saturday and are enjoying it already ( yesterday we had friends over for brunch and everyone commented on how relaxing it was listening to the windchime). Athena has a low, melodious, soothing sound and resonates for a good 20-30 seconds and creates a great ambiance (adding to the sanctuary-like setting I am trying to create in my backyard, along with my rose garden and fragrant jasmine and sweet olive bushes). Best of all, my mom likes it a lot (which says a lot as she is hard to please when buying gifts for her). The only negative is how big it is. I knew it would be large as usually the lower toned ones are typically larger than the higher toned windchimes, but the Athena windchime is a lot bigger than it appears in pictures. Eventually I might hang it in the tree in my backyard and put a smaller Woodstock windchime on patio instead.

I had researched many chimes from different companies before I selected Woodstock Windsinger Chimes of Athena. It was important that my new chime be made from quality materials, have a pleasant sound and be reasonably priced. The Chimes of Athena fit the bill perfectly. Woodstock chimes are known to be assembled by artisans that know how to precisely calibrate each chime so it delivers it's song perfectly. The peaceful tone resonates through my garden and backyard. It makes my porch and garden area a respite from my busy day. And, I felt the cost of the chime to be very reasonable. I highly recommend it!

I have had other chimes which made quite a racket. I love the way these sound. The black is also less obtrusive than the silver. These are a nice complement to the Orpheus Chimes I already had.

After begging her to let me get her something, my wife said she'd like a chime - but one she wouldn't dare to spend a lot of money on for herself. Well, i looked around and decided these Woodstock chimes were a safe bet, although pricey. You can listen to the tones on their website if you desire. I certainly recommend doing so.
We received the chime in great condition, and after I hung it up, i was awestruck by the beauty and clarity of the sound from the chime. The notes are pure, clean, and resonate for unimaginable lengths of time and carry for long distances. These do not sound like a bunch of mumbling keys by any stretch of the imagination. They are a good bit closer to church bells than any chime we've ever had. I can't tell you how much I hope for a breezy day. The sound is calming, relaxing, and helps to drown out my neighbor's cigarette-scarred voice and coughing.
Yeah, the price seems really high for a trinket in your garden, but if you're in earshot of this thing, you'll think it is worth every penny. I am considering another chime in the same 'family'.
