LONG-time Woodstock Chime Appreciation Jun 02, 2009
By Christopher D'Amico
"MockSwede"
FORGET about fancy or ornate fired clay or glass or wood or whatever chimes that 'look cute'. LOOKS is NOTHING! It's gotta be wood or leatherwrapped wood or metal or metal on metal for best sound, IMHO. IF it AIN'T tuned by a musician - leave it. It is the SOUND that matters. Woodstock Chimes have the sound(s) perfected. There are other folks that have lovely chimes/bells - US Bells ([...], Swedish Door Harp ([...], , and many others], etc - of a different type of sound. But, lemme focus... I have had one Woodstock chime (my first) since 1985, after I'd plunked down [...], (a lot of $ for a poor grad student...) at the Mole Hole shop in Brightleaf Square Mall in Durham, NC. I'd been admiring their sound for two years, ever since I'd discovered them. The only problem with Woodstock chimes is that you have to CHOOSE! Many of the originals are still available and they have many more now. It's almost maddening to try out their sounds, and then have to choose ONE. All speak to the soul or to the ear or to eternity or all three. They have three or four sizes in the same tonality (I am NOT a musician, sorry) and they all have aluminum 'tubular bells' [Yeah, Mike Oldfield!!!] with their wooden clapper and have the 'right' sound - just like a brass ships bell or a bell buoy marking shoals. Since my original purchase, I've had the delight to have good friends give me a smaller set of Woodstock chimes and I now can enjoy them from front or rear of the house, depending on the direction of the wind. The latter chime is over 10 years old. I'd LOVE to add a GREGORIAN off of my garage to hit those LOW notes. The kite string and the wood hold up like champs and the aluminum shows NO wear at all. If diamonds and obsidian were as durable! Follow their 'maintenance' suggestions, even if only occasionally (like every 5 years!) and these chimes will outlast the Eiffel Tower and the State of Liberty. I just use Danish Oil on my wooden parts. The kite strings had grayed but never frayed. And, aluminum OXIDE (the tubes) is harder than aluminum and does NOT flake/pit (except around saltwater) - it is 'forever'. I wish I had forever to listen to all of these lovely sounds from Woodstock Chimes. [...] Maybe, in another 'perfect life'.

Something You Will Always Love Jun 10, 2005
By Maureen O'Brien I have three (different) Woodstock Windchimes in my garden. I love them all -- my neighbors do as well -- whenever I have a "difficult" present to buy, I always think of a Woodstock Windchime first -- I have given about 5 of them over the years and they have been "winners"!

If you are going to buy something, buy the best. Mar 18, 2010
By Melissa Diane Richard Forget all those cheap little wind chimes in the Lawn and Garden section or in some tourist trap, if you are going to get a set of wind chimes, get a Woodstock. They are made from high-quality materials and precision tuned by a musician to either exotic scales or specific songs. And if you are going to order a Woodstock, make sure to go to the Woodstock site and listen to the sound samples, they have samples of all their products and the samples are dead-on.
Now onto these chimes specifically, they are tuned to a B Flat Major Pentatonic scale and they sound phenomenal. They arent exactly big chimes, but they have the big-chime sound and sustain. I even dropped them accidentally on the concrete slab when I was unpacking them and there was nary a scratch on them. I could really see these lasting for years with semi-regular maintenance. Get these and you will not be dissapointed.

By J. Laue Wonderful product, wonderful sound, wonderful quality. If you buy cheaper chimes you may save some money but you'll never experience this sound.

By J. McQuade These chimes are very loud, you will definately be able to here them inside your house. Their sound is beautiful and wonderfully tuned. The craftsmanship is of high quality. I would definately recommend them to anyone looking for a really nice set of chimes. They would also be great as a wedding gift.
